TESLA Car Fire! We Must Change How We Fight Electric Car and Home Fires!

The TESLA car explosion after it rammed into a tree near midnight can teach us a singular, most valuable fire control lesson!

The fiery crash of the TESLA, how the car burned for 4 hours, inside a gated subdivision in the city of Woodlands, thirty minutes North of Houston, was a tragic occurrence. The Tesla Car, a Model S, was going at a dangerously “high-speed,” taking a curve, at 11:25 P.M, losing control, and went off the road, smashing into a tree, exploding into flames instantly.

Mark Herman, the Harris County Precinct 4 constable, carefully studied the evidence available, and said, “… no one was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash…” killing both the men who were 59 and 69 years old. “One was in the front passenger seat and one in the rear seat,” he added.

Palmer Buck, Fire Chief at The Woodlands Fire Department, said that “the initial fireball was contained in a matter of minutes, the flareups were the longer-lasting problem…” He continued, by saying…

“We are always challenged in the fire service to keep up with the latest trends,” fire chief Palmer Buck of The Woodlands Township in Texas told Car and Driver. “Several years ago it was compressed natural gas and before that, it was propane-powered vehicles and biodiesel.”

“Changes in how vehicle frames are welded together and where airbags are located in cars have given local fire departments reasons to regularly upgrade their extrication tools,” Buck said, and “new powertrains mean first responders always have more to study to stay up-to-date. It’s a continual learning exercise, and EVs have been part of that, from the very first Prius hybrids that we saw to the all-electric cars,” he said. “The good news is, for us, is that the basic firefighting tool is to put a lot of water on it. That’s an instruction that a lot of firefighters like. That being said, this was our first experience with a large-scale runaway lithium-ion fire.”

I must disagree with Fire Chief Palmer Buck’s statement. Putting “a lot of water” on a raging fire is not the answer. Here’s why:

Water is a slow-reacting agent, to a raging fire, dousing out the fire slowly. Cutting off the oxygen supply, so that the fire can no longer burn, is an instant and better solution. A raging fire devours oxygen like crazy. We can control the fire monster by cutting off its oxygen supply. Always remember this, No oxygen, No fire.

To display this lesson in basic Chemistry, firemen in Zaragoza, a city in Spain, used the Bridge Hill Flame retardant blanket to put out a car fire in less than 5 minutes, without using a single drop of water.

And my idea, using a larger blanket, say 100 or 200 feet wide can be dropped from a helicopter on a burning section of a house or building, cutting off the oxygen supply and putting out a fire in minutes as well. If we try new methods to fight fires, we will definitely succeed.

Alternatively, if there is no helicopter, we must invent a gun that can shoot a blanket from the ground into the air, with weights at the four corners, to land on, and cover a raging fire. This should replace the water hose. We can put out fires in minutes. (I am sure there is such equipment, already invented).

Our firemen here in the United States and other nations, must rethink their approach and use new methods, and stop relying on using water too much.

Water is a precious resource. We cannot afford to waste even a single drop. Watch the NETFLIX documentary on the World’s Water Crisis. #Urgent

After watching this 18:42 minute episode, I’d plead with you to seriously save water, not only firemen but everyone at home also. I will be writing an article on this as well for it concerns human life on our planet.

Smaller fires that start inside the home can be put out using the same method. Get control over the fire fast and cut off its oxygen supply using some fire retardant blanket or metal box. Snuff out the fire at once. You can also douse a heavy towel in water and throw that on the fire if you have no fire extinguisher nearby. This may cause smoke, and possible inhalation problems, but it will be temporary. What matters is that you saved lives and property.

Firemen in Zaragoza, Spain, put themselves on the map, by using a new tool, a large fire retardant blanket, to fight electric car fires. This method also helps control smoke pollution caused by the chemicals in the car batteries.

Watch the two videos of firemen putting out electric car fires below:

“Zaragoza is the capital of northeastern Spain’s Aragon region. Overlooking the Ebro River in the city center is baroque Nuestra Señora del Pilar basilica, a famous pilgrimage site with a shrine to the Virgin Mary and multiple domes. Mudéjar-style landmarks, combining Islamic and Gothic architecture, include the Aljafería, an 11th-century Moorish palace, and the Cathedral of the Savior, begun in the 12th century.” — Google.

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best solution. If this article helps save a few lives and helps reduce the chemical pollution on this planet, my purpose in writing it is fulfilled. Please share this article to inform and educate others. Thank you for reading.
